To keep your milk and cream fresh longer:
- Keep the fridge at 4°C (40°F) or below and use an appliance thermometer to check the temperature. (Source www.befoodsafe.ca)
- Refrigerate perishables (e.g. milk) as soon as you get them home from the store. (Source www.befoodsafe.ca)
- For optimal freshness, use any dairy product within 7 to 10 days of opening. (Source www.utextension.utk.edu)
- Plan your shopping trip: Buy cold food last, get it home fast. (Source www.utextension.utk.edu)
- When drinking or cooking with milk, do not let it sit out for extended periods of time. The longer milk sits on the counter, the higher the chance of spoilage. Milk that has been poured into another container should never be returned to its original container. (Source www.dairycouncilofca.org)
- The Canadian Paediatric Society advises to wait until your baby is 9 to 12 months old before introducing whole cow's milk (3.25% fat homogenized milk) into your baby's diet. When offering your baby milk, be sure to prepare the bottle carefully with thorough cleaning and sanitizing of the bottle. Once your baby is finished with the bottle, be sure to discard any remaining product in the bottle. Do not place a partially consumed bottle back into the fridge or serve at a later date.
